Sydney is a beacon of cultural diversity and acceptance. According to the City of Sydney Council, over a third of the residents in the central parts of Sydney speak a language other than their own, with strong representation from nations all over the world, and especially French people. Similarly, as recorded in the 2011 census, there are over 110,000 people of French descent in the country and the largest French Australian community (about 9,000 people) is in the state of New South Wales; 5,000 of them reside in Sydney! So, from ordering your morning coffee and croissant in perfect French in one of the many themed-bakeries in Sydney to making the most out of the professional opportunities available to bilingual speakers, learning French in Sydney is a very smart move. Contact us today and we will start designing the perfect programme for your skills and schedule!

Why Study French in Sydney

For Work: Taking a French course in Sydney will certainly open up a lot of doors if you are looking for a new job. For example, you can get in touch with the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry on Market Street. Founded in 1899, this is an independent not-for-profit organisation affiliated with CCI France International, a worldwide network of 124 French Chambers operating in 93 countries. The Chamber's main mission is to help French and Australian companies succeed through information, networking and business support services. Every year, they organise La Belle Epoque Gala Dinner to celebrate the new year in the French style! Most of the attendees speak French, so make the most out of this networking event and impress people with your language skills! Also, there are many companies around the city that are always looking for bilingual speakers to add to their teams, such as WiseTech Global, Polyglot Group or OsiSoft. Boost your marketability and learn French in Sydney!

For Culture: Sydney also honours its French cultural heritage around the city. For example, the Alliance Française de Sydney organises many cultural events on a monthly basis, like exhibitions, concerts, conferences, cooking classes, the Bastille Day Celebration and La Fête de la Musique, an annual music celebration that takes place every June. Immerse yourself in all aspects of French culture and practise the language! Those who love cinema can also attend the French Film Festival, organised every March, which showcases the best traditional and contemporary French films. And if you are a literature lover, we are sure you will enjoy the Alliance Française’s Book Club, held every Tuesday. You will be able to share your opinions and views about novels, murder mysteries and non-fiction in French! Take advantage of this opportunity to put your language skills to use.

For Social: Those who want to get to know like-minded people while practising their French can join the Sydney French Language Group. Local Francophiles of all backgrounds are welcome! In addition to speaking in French, the group organises activities, like the French Music and Dance Company, which specialises in choral, band, cirque and early dance courses and workshops. You can also attend the French Talk and Tea, a language exchange event that takes place every week at Chez Maurice Et Linda on Sydney Road. The French staff will be extra happy if you order your crepes or creme brulee in French!
