This Open-Group Beginner Vietnamese Course was designed to help you get started with the language in a motivating way! Therefore, culture will play a big part in your course. Your teacher will explain different topics about Vietnamese beliefs and traditions every class. Besides, you will also share the course with other students from all around the world who are at your same level of proficiency. This will encourage interesting discussions about different cultures, all while boosting your Vietnamese skills. To get started, your teacher will begin with basic topics, like greetings and how to form questions. Then, as you become more proficient in the language, you will start communicating in Vietnamese with the help of your native tutor in situations like making invitations and describing your routine. Lesson 1

You will learn the Vietnamese alphabet, vowels and consonants; the tone system; greetings; to form simple questions; how to greet people on the streets of Vietnam

Lesson 2

You will learn to ask how are you? and give an appropriate answer; the verb ; to use the demonstrative adverbs đây, đấy, đó, kia; to form affirmative and negative sentences; tips to socialize with Vietnamese people

Lesson 3

You will learn to ask and answer the question where are you from?; vocabulary related to countries and nationalities; to use the question words who, whom; personal and interrogative pronouns; about the Vietnamese dialects

Lesson 4

You will learn numbers; to ask questions and give positive and negative answers; to use question tags; the differences between demonstrative adjectives and pronouns

Lesson 5

You will learn vocabulary related to various objects; to use adjectives; to indicate quantity using few, little, many, much; ordinal numbers

Lesson 6

You will learn vocabulary related to family members; numbers 11-99; to show respect when addressing people using the final particle ; how to address people politely and resolve family issues

Lesson 7

You will learn vocabulary related to the days of the week, months, years; to use time expressions; to congratulate somebody; to ask and answer questions starting with when; about the Vietnamese calendar

Lesson 8

You will learn to talk about your daily schedule; to say what time it is; to use temporal prepositions; to speak about and describe past events; about the daily life in Vietnam

Lesson 9

You will learn to talk about your marital status and your family members; to use tense markers; to talk about actions that occur at the moment of speaking and also in the future; about weddings in Vietnam

Lesson 10

You will learn to express requests and suggestions; to make comparisons between objects and locations; to indicate possession, such as my car, your book, etc; to invite somebody somewhere, and to accept/decline invitations; about Vietnamese cities and towns
