Brisbane is a vibrant city with a plural diverse population: more than 50% of its residents were born overseas, as reported by the 2016 census. Arabs form a large part of this immigrant demographic, notably those from Lebanon and Iraq, and have been settling in Queensland (and in Brisbane, in particular) for decades. According to the same census, the Arab Muslim community in and around Brisbane comprises more than 2,000 people, many of whom have their own business, including restaurants, shops and commercial firms. Learn Arabic in Brisbane and you will not only gain insight into the fascinating Arab cultures that have left their mark on this cosmopolitan city, but you will also improve your job prospects and can take advantage of more opportunities to socialise. Contact us at Language Trainers and we will start designing a course that suits your needs and abilities. We come directly to you; so, you can study, no matter where you are in Brisbane or its surrounding areas!

Why Study Arabic in Brisbane

For Work: Learning Arabic will definitely help you access new professional opportunities. If you are looking to connect with business people from the Middle East to partner with them, for example, you can contact the Australian Lebanese Chamber of Commerce (Brisbane Chapter). Established in 1986, this institution aims to strengthen trade relations between Australia, Lebanon and the Middle East by helping local businesses to expand their operations nationally and internationally. Attend their networking events to get to know entrepreneurs from Lebanon and the Arab Peninsula and create long-lasting partnerships using the Arabic skills you learn with us at Language Trainers!

For Culture: Learning a language is as much about personal growth as it is professional growth, so indulge in some of the many cultural marvels around the city. Join the annual Brisbane Arab Writers’ Festival, an event that features writers from the Middle East who come all the way to Australia to talk about their experiences and work. In 2019, for example, the event welcomed Randa Abdel Fattah, a prominent academic researcher, and Sara Saleh, an award-winning poet. Most of the guest writers are Arabic native speakers, so why not approach them after the event and talk to them using your new language skills? And if you love cinema, you should not miss the Palestinian Film Festival, Australia, which has been organised every year since 2005. This is a social impact initiative that is dedicated to promoting Palestinian arts and culture in a multicultural Australian context. All of the films are screened in their original language with English subtitles, so you will be able to understand them after taking your Arabic course with us!

For Social & Tourism: Sign up for an Arabic course and integrate yourself into the local Arabic-speaking community by joining meet-ups and groups that attract Arabic learners and native speakers. One of them is the Arab Socials in Brisbane Meetup, a group for any person living in Brisbane interested in knowing more about the Arab culture and language. Join their weekly gatherings at cafes and have great conversations with like-minded people while practising your Arabic skills! Furthermore, the Australian Arab Association also organises monthly gatherings (such as Saturday dinners where they serve traditional Arab food) for their members to socialise.

In case you are interested in travelling to Arabic-speaking countries to get to know their amazing culture and make new friends, you’ll be delighted to know there are available flights by airlines like Emirates. Just make sure you polish up your Arabic level to enjoy your trip to the fullest!
