Learning Arabic lessons in Sydney can give you an insight into Arabic culture, help you to learn more about the Koran or even improve your job opportunities in the city. With over 20 countries that speak Arabic across the world, learning the language could also be beneficial if you are travelling through the Middle East on vacation. Our Arabic lessons at Language Trainers are tailored to suit your requirements with friendly tutors that come directly to you, so you can fit them in and around your busy lifestyle.
For Work: Did you know that over 30% of Sydney’s population speak a language other than English? The city is one of the most diverse places in the world. According to a 2017 report titled ‘Multilingual Sydney’ 4% of Sydney residents speak Arabic, making it the third most spoken language in the city behind English and Mandarin. Because Arabic is spoken by over 200,000 people in Sydney, learning the language could really open up your employment opportunities in the city. Some of the larger Arabic companies in Sydney who are always on the lookout for bilingual Arabic speakers include the United Arab Shipping Company (S.A.G.), Arab Bank Australia, Etihad Airways and Emirates Airways. Because Arabic speaking skills are in high demand in the city for customer support roles and translation jobs, domestic and international companies in Sydney such as Irfan College, Western Sydney MRC, Ford Peterson and ITSM often seek Arabic speakers. One industry that currently has a shortfall in Arabic speakers is the care worker sector. Care companies in Sydney that are consistently looking for Arabic bilingual speakers are the NSW Care Health Service, New Horizons for Health, and Care.Live.Smile. If you want to learn more about Arabic speaking companies in Sydney, you can visit the Australian Arab Chamber of Commerce & Industry (AACCI), or the Australian Arab Business Council.
For Culture: Taking Arabic lessons will give you the opportunity to explore the Middle Eastern cultural delights that make Sydney such a diverse city. There are over 60 mosques in Sydney, and although Islam is followed by peoples of all languages and nationalities, its official language for the Quran is Arabic. You can try out some of your newly acquired Arabic phrases by visiting Sydney’s largest mosque, the Lakemba Mosque, which was built in 1977 and is located at 71-75 Wangee Road. Lakemba is actually one of the largest Arabic speaking areas in Sydney and is home to lots of shops and stores dedicated to Arabic goods. A stroll along the streets of Lakemba will introduce you to a cacophony of Arabic culture, sounds, sights, and smells. Watching Arabic movies is also a great way to familiarize yourself with the culture, and although the formally annual Arabic Film Festival closed its doors in September 2017, the annual Lebanese Film Festival is still going strong in Sydney and is currently in its eighth year. Try out your new Arabic language skills in one of Sydney’s most popular Middle Eastern restaurants such as the Arabella Lebanese Restaurant on King Street, Kazbah Darling Harbour on Darling Drive, and Cubby's Kitchen on Corner Young Street & Loftus Lane.
For Social: Integrate yourself into the local Arabic speaking community in Sydney by taking part in local meetups and social groups where you can meet other Arabic speakers. The Sydney Arabic Language Meetup has over 400 members that include Arabic speakers and students of the language. The group was first formed in November 2008 and meets once or twice every month to enjoy Arabic inspired culture together such as arts, music, and dance.
