Auckland is one of the world's most culturally diverse cities with the fourth-highest foreign-born population, according to a study published by Statistics New Zealand. The 2013 census reports that more than 25% of the city’s inhabitants speak a language other than English, and one of the most popular languages is German. Did you know that there are more than 12,000 residents in New Zealand with German ancestry and that almost 4,000 of them live in Auckland? Learn German today to get an in-depth understanding of the cultural heritage of the city and to gain communication skills in the most widely spoken native language in the European Union. Contact us and we will start designing a personalised course for you!
For Work: Learning German in Auckland will definitely give your career a boost. As globalisation increases, more and more companies need bilingual speakers to communicate with their German-speaking partners and clients. Some international businesses operating in Auckland that are currently hiring German-speaking employees are THL, Evaneos, Apollo and Ice-breaker, so don’t hesitate to start learning the language with us to get an advantage over monolingual applicants! And if you would like to set up your business in Germany or Austria, for example, you can get in touch with the German New Zealand Chamber of Commerce on Quay Street. Founded in 2001, this organisation is uniquely positioned to help both New Zealand and German businesses and individuals find success in an increasingly competitive global market environment. Join their conferences and events and impress the attendees with your German skills!
For Culture & Tourism: If you would like to experience the culture of German-speaking peoples around the city, you can join the many events organised by institutions like the Auckland Goethe Society on Princes Street. This is a not-for-profit organisation that holds events ranging from readings by visiting German writers to gallery tours of German comic book art, musical evenings and film screenings. They also organise the annual German Film Festival, where you can enjoy classic and new film productions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Forget about English subtitles and enjoy the movies in their original language after taking some lessons with us at Language Trainers! And if you would like to just visit Germany and communicate with locals fluently, we can also help! Contact us today and make the most out of your trips to German-speaking countries.
For Social: Making German-speaking friends in the city is much easier than it seems. For example, you can join one of the many meet-up groups around Auckland, like the Stammtisch and Caféklatsch group. These people get together to practise their German and meet new people twice a week. They are friendly and give everyone the opportunity to use their German, no matter what their skill level; so, don't hesitate to join them, even if you have only just started to learn the language with us! And, after the meetings, why not have a taste of the delicious German and Austrian food in the many themed restaurants based around the city? For example, you can go to Brotzeit on Ponsonby Street to have some strudel and nurnberger sausages. You can also go to Der Metz on Averill Avenue and try sauerbraten and kartoffelpuffer. Their menus are written entirely in German, but you won’t have to ask the waiter to explain the choices after taking one of our German courses!
Whether you are learning German for business, culture or social purposes, we are here to support you every step of the way. In Language Trainers, we adapt to your schedule and needs, so you get to choose when and where you want to study.
