German lessons in Sydney

Get Started and Learn German

German has more than 220 million speakers worldwide, and almost 100,000 of them live in Australia. The German community constitutes one of the largest ethnic groups in the country (and in Sydney), numbering 4.5 percent of respondents in the 2011 census. Studying German in Sydney will not only broaden your local employment prospects but also open up new cultural and social opportunities around the city. Also, German is one of the most common native languages in European countries. Familiarity with German, then, will be useful if you are planning to travel to places like Austria, Belgium, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Get in touch with Language Trainers today, and we will start designing a course that fits your schedule and needs!

Why Study German in Sydney

For Work: Learning German in Sydney will give you an advantage over other applicants. Germany may be very far from Australia, but the country’s influence as a global economic power reaches the shores of the great Harbour City. According to a 2019 report by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, Germany has been one of Australia’s top ten sources of foreign investment throughout the past 10 years. As a result, business ties between the two countries provide a wide variety of job opportunities! As Germany takes a bigger role on the world stage, more international businesses are looking to hire German speakers. Companies such as Accru, Volkswagen and Bayer have offices in or around Sydney and are always looking to hire bilingual speakers. And if you want to learn more about the economic and political relationships between Australia and Germany, stop by the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Spring Street, an organisation founded in 1977 to promote trade and business development.

For Culture: Taking German classes in Sydney will prepare you not only for international employment but also for the annual Oktoberfest in The Domain! This event features two massive beer halls, authentic German food stalls and roving performers throughout the afternoon and evening. With your newly developed language skills, you can impress other attendees with your knowledge of German culture and drinking songs. You can also practise listening to German during the annual German Film Festival, which starts at the end of May and runs until mid-June. This festival showcases new and classic films of German origin in their original language with English subtitles, which you will not need after your lessons with us at Language Trainers!

For Social & Tourism: Those more interested in making friends with a passion for the German language and culture can find some meetup groups in the city. The most popular of them is German Language + Fun Stammtisch, with 2,200 members. They often meet at pubs and bars to have some beer and use their German in a social context, so it would be a great idea to join them if you are looking for more opportunities to put into use what you learn in your German lessons. Some of the restaurants they always choose are Una’s on Victoria Street, where they serve Austrian and German traditional dishes, such as schnitzel, goulash and strudel, and Beerhaus on York Street, a place with German specialties and craft beer. But if you’d like to communicate with native German speakers in their own country, you have the chance of taking a connecting flight and be in Europe in less than 24 hours! Soon, you’ll put everything you learn with Language Trainers into use.
