The city of Wellington and Germany share a long-standing and friendly partnership. In 1886, the first German immigrant arrived in Wellington’s rural areas, and ever since that moment, the German community has been growing steadily. Today, it constitutes one of the largest European ethnic groups in the country, amounting to 6,000 people, according to the 2013 census. So, if you would like to broaden your professional horizons, get to know new people with an interest in the German language and experience their culture in your home city like never before, start learning German with us at Language Trainers. Contact us and we will prepare a course that suits your needs and requirements.
For Social: If you are looking to learn German to meet new people who love the language as much as you do, don’t miss out on the chance to join the Wellington German Language Meetup. Whether you are of German origin or are learning the language and want to practise your skills, this is the group for you. Another group you can join is the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand: German Club. Grab your beer horn and have a great time in the German Club while eating and drinking traditional German food and beer. What’s more, they organise a karaoke night every Friday, where you can sing along traditional German tunes and show off your flawless pronunciation!
For Culture & Tourism: Enhance your cultural experiences by learning German today. Those interested in improving their listening skills while enjoying excellent cinema should not miss the annual German Film Festival. Established in 2008, the festival runs for a month and features productions from Austria, Switzerland and Germany in their original language. Of course, the films are screened with English subtitles, but we are sure you will not need them after taking some lessons with us at Language Trainers! And if you’d like to deepen your knowledge of the fascinating German culture, you can plan a trip to Germany and start using your newly-acquired language abilities!
For Work and Studies: Those who have a knowledge of German in Wellington can also broaden their professional horizons and apply to jobs available only to bilingual speakers. Today, Germany is the world's leading exporter of confectionery, cheese and agricultural engineering, and has deep economic ties to New Zealand. In 2018, New Zealand exports amounted to $320 million in food and beverage products, including meat and dairy. This means that learning German can certainly help you advance in your career if you are working in these fields. Some companies that are always hiring new employees who know foreign languages, such as German, are Nelson LTD, Robert Half and Tourism Holdings, so stand out against other applicants or co-workers by impressing with one of Europe’s most important languages for business. However, if you own your own business and are interested in establishing it in Germany, you can attend one of the monthly workshops by the German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce. For instance, the Annual Business Forum is a space where you can meet business owners and entrepreneurs from German-speaking countries. Impress the attendees with your skills and build up a network of professionals who can help your business succeed abroad!
