Why Learn Indonesian in Sydney?

Learn Indonesian for Work and Travel

Mastering Indonesian in Sydney is a strategic investment that can supercharge both your career and your travel experiences. Sydney's business ecosystem is increasingly interconnected with Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia's most vibrant economies. Prominent Sydney-based companies like ANZ, Leighton Contractors, Commonwealth Bank, Orica, and BlueScope Steel have significant business ties with Indonesia. With fluency in Indonesian, you’ll become an invaluable asset in sectors such as tourism, tech, and import-export, among others. Your bilingual skills not only set you apart in a highly competitive job market but also give you a unique understanding of Indonesian business etiquette, enabling seamless collaborations and elevating your professional standing.

But the rewards extend beyond the workplace. Imagine the richness of your travel experiences as you traverse the Indonesian archipelago. From the bustling streets of Jakarta to the tranquil shores of Bali, your command of the local language grants you extraordinary access to authentic Indonesian life. Instead of being just another tourist, you become an engaged traveller, chatting freely with locals, understanding their traditions, and participating in regional customs. Your Indonesian language skills enrich your travel experiences, offering a lens through which to view the country that few visitors ever get to use.

Learn Indonesian for Culture

Studying Indonesian in Sydney is the perfect way to immerse yourself in an incredible tapestry of Indonesian culture. One major highlight is Sydney's annual Indonesian Night Market, which hosted its most recent edition at the University of New South Wales on the 9th of June 2023. As you wander through the market, your senses will be enveloped by the unique scents of authentic Indonesian dishes, from sizzling Nasi Goreng to tempting desserts like Martabak. This gastronomic experience becomes a vivid introduction to Indonesia’s diverse culinary traditions.

But it's not just about food. The market's Podjok Budaya corner offers a captivating menu of traditional Indonesian activities. Test your skills at Jamu Pong, a game akin to table tennis, or channel your competitive spirit with Balap Karung, a lively sack-racing game. Cultural workshops also abound, teaching the intricate skills needed for Batik textile design and Hena body art, all aimed at giving you a more profound understanding of Indonesian art and craftsmanship.

And let’s not overlook the power of performance. The market is a stage for a myriad of shows that reflect Indonesia's multicultural makeup. Whether it's the display of regional garments in the Traditional Costumes Parade or the melodious notes from Angklung and Gamelan ensembles, the festival captures the essence of Indonesia's cultural richness. Among the standout acts, you'll find the Saman dance from Aceh, notable for its perfectly coordinated moves.

Learn Indonesian for Social

Learning Indonesian in Sydney isn't just an educational journey; it's a social adventure, too. One key experience that underscores this is your participation in the Nu in Sydney & International Language Exchange. This dynamic community hub, which meets every week at Shark Hotel, located at 127 Liverpool Street, offers you an exceptional platform to hone your conversational skills in Indonesian, build self-confidence, and delve into various cultural nuances. The group draws a diverse crowd from across the globe, creating a vibrant social tapestry where everyone is keen to share experiences and stories.

If you're an English speaker aiming to sharpen your Indonesian language skills, this is where you'll find native speakers more than willing to engage in practice conversations. And don't worry about the vibe; a few straightforward rules keep interactions respectful and enjoyable for everyone. So, why hold back? Immerse yourself in this engaging social landscape to reap the full spectrum of benefits that come with learning Indonesian in Sydney.
