More than 130 million people worldwide speak Japanese today, according to Ethnologue, which makes it one of the top 10 most popular languages. Many of these speakers live in Australia, particularly in Brisbane. According to the 2011 census, there are over 1,200 inhabitants who claim Japanese ancestry. Thus, the Japanese language and culture has had an influence on the city. For example, did you know that, as of 2012, Japanese is taught in more than 50 schools in Brisbane? You can also find the Consulate General of Japan in the city, which supplies local educational institutions with resource materials on Japan, like booklets, maps, posters, videos and more. This means that, if you study Japanese in Brisbane with us at Language Trainers, your native teacher will never run out of fun and interesting ways to help you put the language into practice. Contact us today and make it happen!

Why Study Japanese in Brisbane

For Work: If you would like to connect with businesses and entrepreneurs from Japan, you should reach out to the Queensland Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry on George Street. Since 1992, this Chamber has been providing a business forum for companies and individuals engaged in trade and commerce in Queensland and Japan. This means that you can take part in their regular educational events, marketing opportunities and networking functions. Many native speakers attend these events, so impress them with your Japanese and build long-lasting business relationships! Also, many national companies, such as Cook Medical, Goodman Lawyers and Hallchadwick, have international offices and sell their products and services in Japan. So, they need versatile employees who can speak Japanese fluently to help them access potential partners and customers. Boost your employability and start learning Japanese with us today!

For Culture: The Japanese culture is very much alive for you to experience around Brisbane. For example, you can attend the annual Brisbane Japanese Festival, a great opportunity for the community to celebrate this culture and learn more about their traditions. Take part in this event and enjoy art, participate in hands-on workshops and taste delicious Japanese food. Tickets earn entry to a full day of gyoza feasting, drum dancing and han-ami-style picnic festivities, with activities and performances set to stun you and your kids alike. You can even learn how to wear a kimono like a true Japanese woman by taking the Yukata Workshop that takes place every month. This workshop is dictated by native Japanese speakers, so take advantage of this cultural opportunity and learn the language beforehand!

For Social: Socialise using your Japanese skills by joining the Brisbane Japanese Language and Culture Learning Community, a group formed with the aim to connect like-minded people who have an interest in the fascinating Japanese language and culture. Learn more about Japan while putting to use the skills you acquire in your lessons with us at Language Trainers! And if these meetings leave you hungry, you can take your friends to taste some delicious Japanese food at the many themed restaurants around the city. For example, in Saké Restaurant & Bar on Eagle Street or Oshin on Adelaide Street you can order ramen, sashimi, sushi and more. Impress the personnel and your new friends with your flawless pronunciation!
